Comments 

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the visitor’s IP address and browser information in addition to the data shown in the comments form to help detect spam. An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service’s privacy policy can be found at: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile image will be displayed publicly with your comment.  

Media  

If you upload images to the site, please avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Site visitors can download the images and retrieve their location information.  

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to having your name, email address, and site address saved in cookies for your convenience so you don’t have to re-enter your information for future comments. These cookies last for one year.  

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is destroyed when you close your browser.  

When you log in, we will set several cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember me,” your session will remain active for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.  

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be set in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and only holds the ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.  

Embedded Content from Other Sites 

Articles on this site may include embedded content (like videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other sites behaves as if the visitor has visited those other sites. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with embedded content. If you have an account and are logged in, your interaction with embedded content may be tracked.

When you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.  

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata will be retained indefinitely to automatically recognize and approve subsequent comments instead of holding them for approval. For users who open an account, we retain the personal information they provide in their user profile (if any). All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except for changing their username). Site administrators can also see and edit this information.  

What rights do you have over your data?  

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request to export the personal data we hold about you, along with the data you have provided. You can also request that we delete all the personal data we retain about you. Data marked for deletion does not include data we are obligated to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
